No one wants to live with regret! Keep reading for some interesting insights, stats, tattoo fails and the most regretted tattoos according to tattoo artists!
OOPS
Whilst you may never truly know how you'll feel about your tattoos down the line, and one person's regret could be someone else's dream tattoo, test driving it first, through design, placement, size and colour, means you can walk into your tattoo appointment with more confidence, knowing you have lived with it and are more sure than ever that you want to make that skin deep commitment.
InkBound did a little dive into some stats found from a study done in America in 2023 and it turns out that 18% of people regretted their tattoos just a few days after getting them and a
whopping 51% after 2 years! That's over half! and potentially something that could have been avoided with the use of a handy temporary tattoo to experiment with first. 🙀
Another huge 51% plan to actually undergo the very painful tattoo removal process. Did you know the tattoo removal industry alone generates 10's of millions each year and is constantly growing?
Ouch indeed.
WE LOVE TATTOOS!
That's right we do! ❤️ Tattoos are a delicious form of self-expression, symbolising identity, cultural heritage, or personal milestones. They can commemorate loved ones, achievements, or serve as a spontaneous celebration of the moment! Or a drunken night out 😉 🤪
The motivations behind getting a tattoo are as diverse as people themselves, turning the art form into a canvas of personal stories and expressions of identity.
From messages of positivity, spiritual and religious awakenings, memorial tattoos, portraits of your fur babies, horror and fantasy scenes and turning yourself into part machine through bio mechanical designs, you can transform your blank canvas into anything you desire, empowering yourself in the process. Maybe you've always wanted to adorn yourself in yellow feathers and demand friends and colleagues address you as 'Madam Tweetie 🐤'? Go for it, you do you! Crazier things have happened.
The point is, there is a world of possibility out there with no limits on the imagination and exploring what you think you'll love with no limits, through a temporary tattoo, is an awesome place to start.
I DON'T KNOW
Getting a tattoo is a big step! the fear of commitment and the unknown is such a common reason for hesitating and often the idea is just given up upon. Worries over possible evolving tastes, how you'll feel seeing it every single day to how having the tattoo will play out in your social and professional worlds, are all legit concerns that may hold you back.
Diving head first into a tattoo that represents something profound with no second thought for regret is what it's about for some tattoo enthusiasts. For others, fear is so tangible that you may end up sitting on a design you've loved for many years and decide to just abandon the idea, even though deep down you still find yourself thinking about it.
Our water transfers offer no commitment and give you the unique and powerful
insight in to knowing how you're going to feel. Wear your temp until your heart's content. You may surprise yourself with the results! 🙃
OUCH! THAT REALLY HURTS!
They hurt. Like, really bad. Granted, pain is experienced differently from person to person but why not save yourself a possible world of agony and try your designs through a gentle water transfer first?
The last thing you want is to get to the end of your session and realise you wished you had done it a little differently and there is no going back without the added expense of cover ups or removals.
THE MOST REGRETTED TATTOOS ACCORDING TO TATTOO ARTISTS
A 2021 publication by Vice gave tattooists the platform to share the tattoos they thought people might regret in a decade.
From name tattoos, to small tattoos with thin lines that won't stand the test of time, blackwork, face tattoos, fashionable tattoos, tattoos that are harmonious with your current style and political slogans. These are just some of the styles that these tattooists think you might regret down the line.
Ultimately, you want what you want! and damn it, you should have what you want! but given the choice, you have nothing to lose by taking it for a test drive first 🔥 🔥

A BRIEF HISTORY OF TATTOOS
Tattooing is an ancient art form with a rich history that dates back thousands of years across cultures around the world. The oldest evidence shows a man known as Ötzi the Iceman as having carbon tattoos in the shapes of dots and lines, 61 in total!. He lived between around 3350 and 3105 BC and he is known as Europes oldest Mummy! Interestingly, researchers believe that because his tattoos were found in places with joint and spinal generation, that the tattoos were used to relieve ailments like rheumatism and arthritis. You can learn a bit more about him and see some tattoos at The Smithsonian and Ötzi's Ink
Across time and place, tattoos have held many different significances. From tattoos to protect from evil, declare love, power and status, decorative purposes, to celebrate fertility, religious beliefs and punishment.
The practices and tools used to apply the tattoos differed from one culture to the next with the ultimate aim to be to get the ink or pigment under the skin in a way that when healed, it would be permanent. Many of these traditional techniques are still practiced today across the globe.
Fast forward to more recent years and tattooing spread throughout the world via explorers and sailors in the 18th and 19th centuries, becoming popular among Westerners. In the 20th century, tattoos evolved from being associated with counterculture. Fun fact: Did you know it was illegal to tattoo until 1997 in New York? But now there is mainstream acceptance, influenced by cultural shifts and advancements in tattooing technology. Today, tattoos continue to be a prominent form of self-expression, with diverse styles and meanings reflecting individual creativity and identity!v
